Cutting Board Care Instructions

To ensure the longevity and beauty of your cutting board, please follow these care instructions:

1. Cleaning

  • Hand Wash Only: Always wash your cutting board by hand with warm, soapy water immediately after use. Never submerge the board in water or put it in the dishwasher, as prolonged exposure to moisture can cause the wood to warp or crack.
  • Rinse and Dry: Rinse the board thoroughly and wipe it dry with a clean towel. Stand the board upright or lay it on its side to allow it to air dry completely.

2. Sanitizing

  • Vinegar or Lemon: To sanitize your cutting board, you can wipe it down with white vinegar or rub it with half a lemon. These natural disinfectants help eliminate bacteria and odors.
  • Baking Soda Paste: For tougher stains or odors, sprinkle baking soda on the board and scrub with a damp cloth or sponge. Rinse and dry thoroughly.

3. Conditioning

  • Regular Oiling: To maintain your cutting board's luster and prevent it from drying out, apply a food-safe mineral oil or a special cutting board oil at least once a month, or more often if needed.
    • How to Apply: Pour a small amount of oil onto the board and spread it evenly using a soft cloth or paper towel. Let the oil absorb into the wood for a few hours or overnight, then wipe off any excess oil with a clean cloth.
  • Board Butter (Optional): For added protection, you can apply a beeswax conditioner after oiling. This will create a barrier that helps to seal in the moisture and protect the wood from staining.

4. Storage

  • Store Upright: Store your cutting board in an upright position to allow airflow around it. This prevents moisture buildup and reduces the risk of warping.
  • Avoid Extreme Temperatures: Keep the board away from direct sunlight, heat sources, or extreme humidity, as these conditions can cause the wood to crack or split.

5. General Tips

  • Use Both Sides: To prevent uneven wear, use both sides of your cutting board regularly.
  • Avoid Cutting on the Same Spot: Vary your cutting location on the board to ensure even wear.
  • Resurface as Needed: If your board becomes heavily scratched or stained, you can sand it lightly with fine-grit sandpaper and reapply oil to restore its smooth surface.

By following these care instructions, your cutting board will remain a beautiful and functional part of your kitchen for years to come.
